Japan’s permanent residence permission system

You may already know this, but around April next year, changes are planned in the way Japan’s permanent residence permission system is handled.

At the same time, the procedures for buying a home, including home-loan approval conditions, may also change.

I am telling the same thing to other people too, but honestly, there is still a chance now.

Of course, you do not need to buy a home right away.

However, if you have even a small interest in buying a home in the future, I think it is better to check whether you can get a home loan early.

The process may feel difficult or a little troublesome.

But honestly, that is not a big problem. A much bigger problem is this:

Home loan screening

For a home loan, lenders look at more than whether you have permanent residence permission.

They also check your yearly income, how long you have worked at your current job, how long you can stay in Japan under your current residence status, your current loans or other debts, any late payments, and your own savings or money prepared for the purchase.

Preparations

Even if there are some things you need to prepare, finding out early gives you more time to think about what you can do.

It is better to check what is possible now than to do nothing and regret it later. Even after checking, it is completely okay to decide, “Maybe this is not the right time for me.”

However, I hope you will not give up this possibility without checking anything first.
